UNSWTV starts work with X3

Students were given an opportunity today to display the progress of the bay to date. The team from UNSW TV came in to document the construction process and see the condition of the test-bay. They will continue to follow our progress until completion of the final structure in Fowlers Gap in December.

Site visit to Fowlers Gap

A team of students has visited the specific site and collected more accurate information on the site using surveying equipment and a GPS unit. Geological samples were also collected for further analysis.

Third tier of Columns erected

The the third pair of columns (the C3 tier) has been erected and fastened in place, making way for the positioning of the upper ‘bearers’ and the following joists and flooring.

First 'H' frame of test bay erected

Following the laid out construction plan, building from the lower structure upwards, the first ‘H’ frame of the test bay has been erected.

The two lower columns were laid out on the ground and squared up to meet the footprint of the bay. The connecting crossbeam was fixed into place and the frame lifted into place, where is was then bolted and tacked down

Fabrication of the test bay commences

Following the first delivery of timber, construction of the first bay has begun. The timber has be separated and marked out based on profile, the timber is being docked to length and the ends drilled and routed.
